About Us
We were originally called Swindon and District Volunteer Bureau, known as Swindon Volunteers, but now we are simply called Volunteer Centre Swindon. We are fully accredited members of Volunteering England, the national volunteering organisation.
We run several projects; these include:
Who are we?
Sue Fuller
I am the Administrator and joined the Centre in October 2007. My main areas of responsibility are administrative and clerical functions, responding to all email enquiries, including do-it applications, interviewing prospective volunteers and supporting the Management Committee.
Alex Mullins
I started as an outreach worker in March 2002 and promoted volunteering in areas of Swindon other than in the centre. I became Manager in July 2004. My job is very varied and enjoyable. I oversee the work of the projects that we run and also the day-to-day running of the centre that includes ensuring that we follow our core functions. Getting more people involved in volunteering in order to help others or the environment in Swindon and the surrounding area is what we are here for! It is also a key part of our work that we give advice on volunteering to organisations and get involved in highlighting volunteering issues with the local authority and others who have a say in the strategic development of the area.
Sue Dunmore
I am the Youth Volunteer Development Manager for the v involved team in Swindon . I joined in January 2005 as a maternity cover, working as Millennium Volunteers Project worker and Information Worker. My other roles have been to help co-ordinate the work of the 4 Wiltshire Volunteer Centres including the development of volunteering opportunities and good practice. I have also promoted volunteering to people with mental health problems, and promote our service to support workers and other health professionals. I also look after the two Volunteer s groups, which undertake mailings etc for community and voluntary organisations.
Heidi Mabbott
I had experience in volunteering with a large blue chip company before joining Volunteer Centre three years ago as an Information and Employee Volunteering Advisor. I am always on the look out for volunteering tasks suitable for company staff to do, either as a team or using their individual business skills. In addition, I will help Companies find a suitable task and advise on how they should go about completing a challenge; whether they are new to volunteering or have had a local presence in the community for many years. I also have experience of volunteering in various roles in my own time.
Emma Johnson
I joined the team at Volunteer Centre Swindon in April 2007, as a Millennium Volunteers Project Officer for Swindon and the Marketing/Development Worker for Wiltshire. I am now the Youth Volunteer Development Manager for the vinvolved team in Wiltshire. We are in partnership with BTCV to deliver this exciting project. I have volunteered in the past with Swindon Advocacy Movement and Millen Advice Point, and have helped out with the Mela for several years, so have first hand experience of how volunteering can help gain skills and confidence.
